Ashley McKenzie decided to start the Austin Chapter of Start School Later in January 2013 because she remembers too well the stress of maintaining a brutal athletics schedule, early starts for school and operating under severe sleep deprivation on a daily basis.  As a yoga instructor and independent sleep consultant, Ashley is committed to establishing more balance in the midst of an overscheduled, stressed society.

Roundrock, TX high school students enjoy an 8:35am start time, but elementary school children are still being sent to school in pre-dawn hours and need to be in class prior to 8:00am.  Not only is it unsafe, but young teachers that still have circadian sleep rhythms of teenagers must work with their young charges while fighting off their own sleep deprivation.
