School Start Time Research Summit

SAVE THE DATE!

Summit on Adolescent Sleep and School Start Times:
Setting the Research Agenda for California and Beyond

Tentative Date: January 23, 2021

Stanford Medical School
Stanford, CA
An unprecedented opportunity for researchers from a wide variety of disciplines has emerged as a result of California law SB328 which mandates that all public middle and high school in the state implement start times of 8:30am or later by the 2022 school year. Educators and policy makers in California and across the nation will be seeking to assess the impact of start time change across a broad range of outcomes.
This one-day summit at Stanford University will bring together a multi-disciplinary group of experts in the field to provide participants with a unique opportunity to:
  • learn the latest information about sleep and findings from school start time research
  • identify and discuss novel and innovative topics for exploration
  • establish cross-disciplinary research collaborations with fellow attendees
  • make recommendations regarding future research across these areas

Who Should Attend:
Researchers from a wide range of academic backgrounds, including sleep and circadian biology, neuroscience, psychology, education, medicine, mental health,
safety, public policy, economics, implementation science, and diversity science.

Summit Content:
The morning session will include a summary of “what we know” by experts in their respective fields with ample time to discuss research questions. The afternoon will be devoted to small group workshop sessions on a variety of topics including research design and tools, methodological issues, logistical challenges in conducting school-based research and novel approaches. The day will conclude with a summary of these discussions for all workshop participants.
