Our National Petition

Trumbull CT is a town with a long history and pride in our excellent public school system. Our schools have won numerous awards and our students compete at the highest levels in both academics and sports. Unfortunately, our middle schools and high school start times (before 7:30am) make it nearly impossible for the majority of students to get the sleep they need to perform at their best. Our start times also run counter to the 8:30am start time that is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, National PTA, National Sleep Foundation, and 13 additional national associations.

Fortunately, this issue is actively being looked at by an Exploratory Committee, reporting to the Trumbull Board of Education, that is weighing options for later school times in our town.

Start School Later Trumbull is a group of Trumbull parents committed to supporting this later start time initiative in Trumbull. There are over 100 chapters of Start School Later across the country and 8 in CT. Newtown, Wilton, Greenwich, Guilford, and Greens Farms Academy have already moved to later start times. New Canaan, Westport, Norwalk, West Hartford, Bethel, Brookfield, Ridgefield and Simsbury are well along the road in doing research and planning.

Please follow us on Facebook at Start School Later Trumbull and email the Board of Education to show your support for Healthy School Start Times in Trumbull.
