Start School Later's 2024 National Conference on Adolescent Sleep and School Start Times: Science & Implementation addresses the critical need for school districts to implement safe, healthy, equitable school start times for middle school and high school students, supporting efforts to ensure every teenager benefits from school hours that allow for healthy sleep. Participants can expect to:
- Review Adolescent Sleep and School Start Times Research: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the current science regarding adolescent sleep needs, the impact of school start times on sleep, physical and mental health, safety, school performance, and student and community well-being — as well as effective ways to communicate these findings to policymakers and community stakeholders.
- Learn Effective Implementation Strategies: School district leaders and other experts will share successful strategies and best practices for implementing safer, healthier school start times. This includes navigating logistical challenges; engaging with community stakeholders; adapting transportation, sports schedules, and other extracurricular activities; and addressing concerns from parents, teachers, administrators, and other community stakeholders.
- Collaborate and Network: Workshop solutions with like-minded leaders, share experiences, exchange ideas, and develop partnerships to advocate for and enable healthy school start times across communities.
