Kimberly Damron is leading the grassroots effort in Leon County, Florida to support our school system in changing start times for High Schools and Middle Schools to 8:30 or later.
Kimberly is a formerly private practicing licensed therapist and has a 7th grader who will be dealing with the current 7:30 am high school start time soon. As she researched the issue, Kimberly was astounded and perplexed by the mounds of scientific studies that provide compelling evidence of the need for a later start time for our teens that has been available for decades. Kim relates, "My goal has been to raise awareness in our community about the science behind the need for change and ways that these changes are being done successfully in Florida and across the nation. It seems only logical for us to join the National movement, as supportive numbers may be the only way to get the attention of legislators who can take this issue out of the local political arena and improve our chances for making our kids' health a national priority!"
