The Volusia County chapter of Start School Later is a volunteer organization that promotes improved student health and performance by promoting later school start times.
Hundreds of schools around the United States have restored later start times, and many more never moved to extremely early hours in the first place. The schools that have found affordable, feasible ways to do so have been both large and small. These districts can say they looked at the science of what's best for the students and made the change accordingly. They are seeing large and small benefits to physical and mental health, learning, attendance, graduation rates, car crashes, and overall student well-being. Students in other districts are realizing these benefits. Our Volusia County Schools students can too! Join us as a volunteer to help us educate our friends and neighbors about this and to help the school board make this change. Since much of our work is educational, much of it can be easily done online. No amount of contributed time is too small. Your simple sharing of the information we have with your online friends can make a big difference. If you are interested in helping with this effort, please contact us.
