The Germantown Municipal School District became a separate school district in Fall 2014. This led to a need for new Start School Later chapter in addition to our Shelby County Chapter. The Germantown Municipal School District manages 5 schools, separately from Shelby County. (Ironically, the 3G's, Germantown HS, MS and ES, are still under Shelby County as of this writing).
Chapter Leader Sheila Starkey Hahn heard about Start School Later and knew she wanted to be involved with her new school district. The local chapter was launched in June 2014 and operated locally as Germantown for Healthy School Start Times (GHSST). In January 2016, the school board voted to start the high school at 7:45 am and the middle school at 8:00 am. Previously both schools started at 7:00 am! |
