Start School Later Saratoga Springs, NY!
Kirstin Drabek is the mother of three children in the Saratoga Springs school district. She has been concerned about the start time for secondary schools for a number of years.
When the American Academy of Pediatrics released a study in late August recommending a later start time for secondary schools, she turned her concern into action, starting the fifth local chapter in New York state and the 34th chapter of Start School Later.
The start of her oldest daughter's middle school career prompted her to reach out to the Superintendent to discuss this issue. For some students in our district, the morning starts with a bus pick-up at 6:45 a.m.. for an almost-one hour trip to school before the 7:41 a.m.. start time. This is too early!
Many parents over the years agree that a later start time is a good idea for our district to consider. To join her in advocating for the health and safety of all Saratoga Springs students and beyond, use the contact form on this page to contact the chapter or join our Facebook group.
"I don't have a background that would give me insider information or research. I am simply a parent who is concerned about the well-being and safety of the children in our school district." - Kirsten Drabeck, Chapter Leader of Start School Later Saratoga Springs, NY
