Welcome to Start School Later King Philip, MA
If you’ve found your way to the King Philip Start School Later page, you are probably aware of the numerous health issues associated with sleep deprivation. For adolescents, sleep deprivation is exacerbated by school start times that do not line up with their biological sleep rhythms
We advocate healthier school start times in line with those recommended by the American Association of Pediatrics and numerous other medical organizations, which call for middle and high school students to start school no earlier than 8:30 a.m. King Philip Regional Middle and High School students start school at 7:35 a.m., requiring many to rise by or before 6 a.m. and be on the bus between 6:30 and 7 a.m. Adolescents need between 8.5 and 9.5 hours of sleep per night. Many report getting 6 hours or less. Such sleep deprivation will impact academics, attendance, mental health and physical health. Let’s do better! |
