Watertown is the thirteenth town based local chapter of Start School Later in Massachusetts.
Start School Later Watertown, MA is presently led by Rebecca Grow, Alyson Morales, and Kate Coyne. Rebecca is a parent of twins in the third grade at Hosmer Elementary School. Alyson and Kate have children in fifth grade at the Lowell School, and Alyson has a middle school child as well. All are active with Watertown Strong Schools. Start School Later Watertown is committed to the premise that the middle and high school schedules should be better aligned with the biological sleep rhythms of adolescents. At present, the Watertown Middle School start time is 7:40 a.m. and the Watertown High School start time is 7:55 a.m. As recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Start School Later Watertown proposes that the middle and high school start times should be shifted to 8:30 a.m. or later.
